The formal living space was not very large and as a result we wanted to incorporate furniture with soft edges and comfortable upholstery to create a cozy environment. To accomplish this, a chaise and a sofa were used in the decor of the living room. However, the fabrics used on the two pieces needed to be customized in order to compliment the client's style. We chose aubergine fabric for the sofa and a deep beige fabric for the chaise. Alternating pillows were used in order to tie the pieces together. In addition, I chose to use the varying fabric as the piping on each piece in order to contrast the two colors.
Instead of accenting the feature wall with a large painting or credenza, the clients and I decided to go in a more contemporary direction. 4 metal boxes with inset mirrored backs were used to create a modern art form. When the clients entertain, they have the option of placing small votive candles along the inside ledges of the mirrors to create an intimate ambiance of reflected light.
