The dimensions of this bedroom were quite generous for that of a Vancouver apartment. Pale green walls added to the feeling of openness. In order to maximize the space, it was important to arrange the furniture in such a way so as to not block the natural circulation flow that the room lent itself to.
Special consideration also need to be made to the color palette that was introduced into the room. Soft browns and metallic accents infused a hint of color into the room while maintaining a soft balance within the envelope. The artwork above the bed allowed me to add some interest to the bare wall without infusing too much color and reducing the visual dimensions of the area.
Another factor that needed to be dealt with was the lack of lighting. I found it quite odd that there were no light fixtures installed in this room. There was only a switch that turned a power outlet on and off. As such, I purchased three inexpensive light fixtures which were placed on either side of the bed as well as inside the closet. The installation of these fixtures provided enough ambient lighting to satisfy the illumination needs of the room.
