The Red Room Salon & Spa is located in Red Deer, Alberta. The owner of this salon had an existing location in Red Deer that she felt was old and outdated. As a result, she wanted to relocate into a brand new plaza and create a salon that was edgy and unique.

From our initial meetings, it quickly became apparent that the client was not afraid of color and had a strong attraction to the color red - hence the salon name "The Red Room." She was also drawn to funky and unusual furniture. Knowing that, we were able to create a bold color palette and also source furniture and salon equipment that was unique and not common for most salons in Red Deer. However, due to the fact that the salon's existing clientele was predominantly family oriented, we had to be careful not to create an environment that was too edgy and unresponsive to the tastes of her clients.

Before any of that could be done, space planning had to be considered. The location for the new salon was still under construction so we had the opportunity to determine where partition walls would be erected and what space plan would best suit the requirements of the salon. After interviewing the client and her stylists we were able to define the different spaces required to accommodate the various services the salon offered. We determined that although the salon had some spa services available, hair styling was the major focus. Therefore, the space allocated to the spa and esthetics rooms was minimal.

Through the use of bold colors and contrast, funky furniture and salon equipment, lighting, and materials and finishes that combined traditional with industrial, we were able to make the client's vision a reality.
